Rokeby Cottage is pet friendly self-catering holiday accommodation
If you are an owner of one of the estimated 27 million pets in the UK then taking a holiday is usually a compromise. You might go somewhere great, but what about your pet?
Well thankfully now there are more and more pet and in our case specifically dog friendly places where you and your dog can stay, so that neither of you have to be parted or make do with a nice countryside walk without your best friend.
Rokeby Cottage welcomes guests with one small, well behaved dog, to stay. We have laid out the accommodation so that if they stay downstairs then they can't get into too much mischief. There is a £20 charge per week per stay. This is because there is usually a bit more cleaning up, or airing to be done before the next guest arrives.
You will have to bring your own food and water bowls, baskets and blankets and their other creature comforts.
When taking your dog out for walks you need to be aware of the Countryside Code and also look out for signs on farms particularly around lambing time. Also, periodically there are notices of restrictions to prevent the spread of livestock infection.
The people of Hathersage like animals but obviously appreciate you cleaning up after your pet. Likewise local pubs will usually allow pets in the beer gardens. Some even put out a bowl of water so that you can both get refreshed.
All in all, a little bit of planning and care will ensure that you and your pet have a fantastic stay and will want to visit time and again.
